What do you get when you choose Fox Oilfield for all your transportation, hauling, and trucking needs? You get a company completely dedicated to efficiency, quality, the environment, and the comfort of their drivers. You get a company that equips their trucks with not one, but two Webasto heaters, which represent the best in cost-saving and positive, environmentally-friendly technology. These are the Webasto Water Heater and the Webasto Air Heater.
The reason we chose to use the Webasto Water Heater is because cold engines don’t turn over as efficiently as they would in warmer weather. During the winter months in Alberta, if the block and oil pan heaters are not plugged in, there is a good chance the truck will not start at all. Since not all locations provide power, the only other option left is to leave the truck running all night when not in operation. Environmentally, this was unacceptable to Fox Oilfield. What does that mean to you? Simply put, higher fuel consumption and higher costs in cold weather. This is where the Webasto Water Heater comes in. It is integrated into the engine coolant circuit, bringing the engine up to an acceptable operating temperature prior to the engine even starting. You can be sure to count on it even in the lowest temperatures. Additionally, it makes fuel-intensive idling obsolete and pleasantly preheats the interior cabin.
Our second Webasto heater we use in our trucks is the air heater, which specifically heats the cabin, creating a perfectly heated, comfortable environment for all our drivers. This is especially important for those cold, icy, Alberta days where having a clear view, without ice or snow on the windows, is vital to our drivers safety. But beyond that, they are simply the right choice for efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the winter. We want our drivers to have comfortable, full sleeps, that leave them well rested and ready to tackle the next day’s drive. (Click HERE or a previous article on that subject)
As a result of the integration of these two systems, we have significantly reduced the amount of idling a truck needs to do in a given day. In the winter, the cabin heater is capable of keeping a driver warm overnight without them having to keep their truck running. We have gone as far as to set email reminders for our drivers to ensure that they are not idling excessively. To put these two heaters into a perspective that everyone can understand, pure numbers: the environmental difference of the heaters will reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 140kg’s per truck per year. Which translates into substantial yearly cost savings that we are able to pass on to our customers.
